WOW (Woman of the Week), is a new initiative launched under the umbrella of NAWF 2012 in an effort to applaud and recognize the success of Arab women. 15 figures from 9 Arab countries were featured on NAWF’s website and received more than 14,000 votes. The final winner, Ms. Mona Khazindar, received the largest number of votes and was designated the 2012 Woman of the Year.
“I am very thankful to all those who voted for me. I’d like to take this opportunity to say that women today possess an essential role… Women are educators, and the way they educate their children can ultimately impact change in society.” stated Ms. Khazindar after receiving her WOW award. Ms. Fadel and Ms. Nasr upon receiving their 2nd and 3rd runner-up trophies, saluted the efforts and achievements of all women working behind the scenes and whose names remain anonymous.
WOW is set to continue in 2013. Nominations for individual figures to be featured in the second edition of “Woman of the Week,” are now open until August 2012. The first female figure to feature on the website will be announced in September 2012.
